Are You Envisioning the Life that You Want for Yourself?

Are You Envisioning the Life that You Want for Yourself? Posted on September 28, 2017

I am Sonhadora, 34 years old, born and raised in the Philippines. At 32, I decided to quit my job, sell everything I have and travel halfway across the world. It lasted for 14 months and I found my way back home. What do I know about life? A little and a lot. I’ve certainly had my fair share of dreams coming true, frustrations and hitting rock bottom, broken hearts and a lot of unexpected detours. Follow my blog and join me in this once in a lifetime adventure and I will make it worth your while.

Take a good hard look at your life.

Are you envisioning the life that you want for yourself? How’s the view? Do you like it? If it’s not working, shut up and fix it.

Life choices.

Every single day of our lives is run by our life choices. Choices that affect our relationships, choices that determine our future, choices that mold us to who we are and who we will be.

We don’t always make the right choice. Sometimes, we even make bad choices but that’s how life should be. A life with wrong turns, detours and bad choices. Why? Because that is the only way we will learn and grow.

However, there is a downside when we make bad choices. Initially, we won’t be able to figure out that we made a bad choice until it’s too late and we already hit rock bottom.

Some people managed to get back up and start over, but some, they wallow in self pity and continue to make bad choices after bad choices, trying to find an easy way out. Until they realized that they are in deeper shit and getting out is harder than ever.

It’s a cycle that a lot of people find themselves in. And worse, these people succumbed to depression and accepted defeat. They just gave up on life.

Why? Because giving up is so much easier than fighting for dear life. Because the climb out of the blackhole that sucked the life out of you takes tremendous effort, determination and will power. Just thinking about all the work that needs to be done makes you want to give up.

However, one thing these people failed to realize is that they only need to take that first step — recognize that there is a problem. Because once you’ve recognized that there is a problem, coming up with a solution and an action plan will be easy. Then again, taking the first step is always the hardest. The paradox of life.

These problems for instance —

Do you have too much debt that you want to get out of?

When you ask yourself this question, you are already recognizing that your financial situation needs to change.

Possible solutions? Track your spending, let go of that instant gratification attitude that makes you go on a shopping spree, and live below your means. If you must, find ways to earn extra income to help ease that financial stress.

Do you want to quit your soul-sucking job?

We all came to this at one point in our lives. While others successfully worked their way up the career ladder, some continuously work on these soul-sucking jobs and act as if they don’t have a choice because they have bills to pay.

My advice to you? Start planning your exit strategy and stop wasting your time and taking shit from your boss and colleagues. Instead of complaining incessantly, actively look for jobs, look for side hustles that have the potential of letting you earn full-time income eventually, or finally start that business idea that you’ve been building inside your head while you still have the financial security from your day job.

Nothing will happen until you act. Ideas are useless until you put those into action. And your life situation will never change until you realize that something needs to change.

These life challenges come into our lives to test our resilience. Do we fight or do we accept defeat? Do we stand tall and try again, or continue going down without a fight?

With the right mindset, you either win or you learn but you will never lose.

You see, life choices are what make you who you are. You don’t get to say that life is unfair when you haven’ t even tried fighting for life. And you don’t get to say you deserve a better life when you couldn’t even be bothered to do the work. Because believe it or not, you get what you deserve.

As I end this post, I want you to picture yourself at 80 years old, sitting in your front porch — reminiscing how your life went all these years. Do you like what you see? Are you contented with how you lived your life?

If you don’t like what you see, shut up and fix it. Not tomorrow. Now.
