What are your goals for 2018? Have you given any thought to it? I’m not talking about resolutions, but GOALS. Things you want to achieve, habits you want to break or change, chances you want to take.
During a post Christmas get together with friends, I was asked what my goals are for 2018. And my answer was, “to become a life coach”.
Their reaction? They laughed of course. A normal response because of 2 things — 1) they don’t have an idea of who I really am or what I am capable of; and 2) it sounds absurd.
It might take years and more life experiences before I can actually become a life coach but I know one day, some day, I will get there. Yes, I was serious when I said I want to become a life coach. Por favor, spare me any judgmental thoughts.
For 2018, what I want to accomplish is this — to become a digital travel and social entrepreneur.
By definition, it is someone who builds a location-independent [digital or online] business whilst making an impact in the process.
I don’t just want a location-independent work. I want to build something that would allow me to do 4 things:
- help people and small organizations grow their business
- continue to strive for financial stability, leading to financial freedom
- travel or work anywhere in the world
- write and share my travel stories hoping to inspire even just one human being to live fully, to live boldly
All these with an end goal of making a difference and touching people’s lives in my own little ways.
The challenge is, wanting something is just one part of the story. I have to hustle hard, get off my ass, and work hard so I can live the life that I love. Because the life that I want won’t be handed to me on a silver platter, and Universe does not give a shit to what I think I am entitled to.
And it ain’t going to be easy because I AM LAZY, I procrastinate a LOT, and I don’t believe in myself as much as I should.
Just today for instance, I was supposed to get out of the house early but I ended up going out late in the afternoon. Why? Because I was sucked in watching TV, because the couch won’t let me leave… excuses, excuses, excuses.
I am so fucking tired of how I live my life. Tired of procrastinating especially knowing there’s so much that I need to do. Tired of all the excuses that I am telling myself.
But you know what they say, NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO CHANGE.
So, to be able to achieve my goal, I will commit to making these habits and then breaking some:
- get up early to meditate and do yoga
- eat healthier — ditch the sodas and processed food, and eat more fruits and veggies
- read one book a week
- spend more time, a lot more time, converting my business ideas into actual businesses
- spend a lot less time watching TV and procrastinating
- spend more time with like minded people
- be more mindful with my finances
- train my mind to see the good in every situation and everyone
To succeed in doing these things, I only need 2 things — Discipline and Consistency.
Good habits are hard to make but easy to live with, and bad habits are easy to make but hard to live with.
We just have to choose wisely.
Easier said than done but I believe that it only takes a slight change in my behavior and mindset to create and break a habit, which would help me develop the discipline and consistency that I need.
All I know is I am done making a mark on the couch, and I am ready to start making my mark on this world.
And my plan of action? I only have one and it’s simple —
To relocate somewhere that would allow me to be more creative and work on my goals — I badly need a change in environment to get unstuck and find like-minded people that would serve as inspiration and motivation
I am in my comfort zone, which offers too much comfort that leads to slacking off and procrastinating often. Any given day, it’s easy for me to let go of my plans when I see a good movie on TV, or when the weather is shit. I have had enough of these excuses, life is passing me by quickly and I need to act fast!
For the coming year, I am determined to turn my life around, to create the life that I want so I can finally live the life that I love. No more excuses, no more procrastinating, no more half-hearted creations. I am going all in and hustle hard.
Before 2017 comes to an end, I want to ask you these —
What are you doing to make TODAY count? Are you ready to make 2018 your best year yet? Are you ready to create the life that you want so you can live the life that you love?
If you answer YES, then get your ass out there and earn it. Because dreams mean work, dreams demand hustle.
