Do You Know the Secret to Happiness?

Do You Know the Secret to Happiness? Posted on September 7, 2017

I am Sonhadora, 34 years old, born and raised in the Philippines. At 32, I decided to quit my job, sell everything I have and travel halfway across the world. It lasted for 14 months and I found my way back home. What do I know about life? A little and a lot. I’ve certainly had my fair share of dreams coming true, frustrations and hitting rock bottom, broken hearts and a lot of unexpected detours. Follow my blog and join me in this once in a lifetime adventure and I will make it worth your while.

Awhile back, I’ve written a post about defining HAPPINESS. While it’s true that we all have our own definition of happiness, there’s still that one secret to happiness that most people fail to see.

It’s not the numbers you see in your bank account, or the number of properties you have, or even the stamps in your passport. What could it be then?

Human Connection.

Why do we always feel the need to unwind with colleagues after a stressful day at work? Why do we schedule catch up dates with friends we haven’t seen in a long while? And why can’t we go on days without talking to at least one human being?secrettohappiness

It’s simple. We want to connect with people, to share our joys and frustrations, our little triumphs and disappointments. Human connection keeps us sane and makes us feel that we are not alone in this crazy, and sometimes harsh, world.

Just think about today. How many people did you talk to personally and online? And imagine having no one to talk to. Unbearably sad, right? No matter how introverted you are or how much you convince yourself that you are better off alone, you simply cannot live alone.

Have you noticed how, even for a short while, you forgot about your problems when you’re out with friends? How it made you feel good knowing that someone understands what you’re going through? And when shit happens, what do you normally do? Call your family and closest friends for support.

No man is an island and that much is true. We all need people to give us hope and encourage us during tough times. We need people to disappoint and leave us so we can grow and learn. And we need people who will love us unconditionally, our family and partners, to show us why life is worth living.

There’s absolutely nothing in this world that can replace the happiness that human connection brings. A smile from a stranger, a power hug, a simple text message of encouragement from your best friend… these are what help us go through each day of our lives. There’s no denying it because we are not robots. We are humans who have feelings and emotions. We have a heart.

Secret to happiness? It’s no secret anymore.

Just look around you and think of all the meaningful relationships that you have. Life is that simple. Life is always good. Because life is, after all, about human connection.

It’s funny how ideas strike almost anywhere at any given time. This post, for instance, came to me whilst I was watching the TV series Supergirl. Making me realize that even superheroes need somebody.

Thank you for stopping by and for allowing me to connect with you. Sending you love from my side of the world!
