Granted that we all have work to do, how much time [minutes or hours] in a day do you use watching Netflix and browsing your Facebook feed?
Aside from entertainment, what other benefits do you get from those? Don’t get me wrong. I am not questioning nor judging how you spend your time because I, myself, spend time watching movies at night to unwind.
However, if you spend most of your day consuming than creating, then that’s where the problem lies in my honest opinion.
And here’s why —
I read somewhere in LinkedIn that during a gathering of sorts, it’s always normal for people to ask what you do for a living or what company you are currently connected with. But, it’s rare for someone to ask what you have created or built recently.
Is it because majority of us are programmed to live a career-oriented life? That having an entrepreneur mindset is completely unnatural?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, those days are long gone. People nowadays are exploring business ideas, starting a technological revolution, and why not? We are now living in a digital age. Countless of resources and information are made available to us at the click of our fingers. We only need to be passionately curious, to raise questions, and to seek solutions.
So, I ask you — what have you created lately? It doesn’t have to be grand or passion-driven. It just has to come from your curiosity because that leads to creativity. And the more you feed your curiosity, the more you will find what you are truly passionate about.
Now, isn’t that the ultimate goal after all? To cultivate our passion so we can finally fulfill our purpose in life [whatever that is].
Again, the problem lies on how you spend your time in a day. We are all given 24 hours in a day and yet, a lot of people are able to build something great whilst still working on their day job. So, why can’t you?
What’s your excuse?
If you can only trade some of your Netflix time to creating and developing a growth mindset, then the possibilities are endless. You don’t have to be the next Elon Musk or the next Jeff Bezos. You just have to WANT to be better so you can do better.
At the end of the day, what’s important is how you used your time to create more and consume less. Only good things can come from it, guaranteed.
